It’s not a bad job this one. The pay’s okay and they’re not scrimping on the soundtrack recording – I’m in a decent studio and I’ve been able to hire CS-80 and Prophet V synths. There’s been some of the usual nonsense from a couple of the blokes in the studio, expecting me to make the tea but that settled down after a day or two when they realised I knew more than they did.
I think initially the plan had been to put a traditional instrument orientated soundtrack on the album, maybe something a bit folk-ish even but somebody in the production company had worked on pop promos and that’d given them a love of synth pop and electronic music, what with that being all over the charts at the moment. And so, here I am.
I’m thinking something a bit like John Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s soundtrack for Halloween III: Season of the Witchmight suit some of the sections. Something with an unsettled, tense atmosphere but still with plenty of melody.
